Measure the square feet of the area to be covered. Length x Width = Square Feet
Take the total square feet and divide it by the factor of preferred depth to determine the cubic yards required.
Depth Factor - Sq. Ft./Cu. Yd.
2 inch depth - Factor 162
3 inch depth - Factor 108
4 inch depth - Factor 81
Example:
Area to cover 6' x 55' = 330 sq. ft.
3 inch depth factor = 108
330 divided by 108 = 3.06 cu. yds.
